At the 2010 ZOW exhibition Häfele demonstrated how this quick-change artist turns a bed into a desk with shelves and vice-versa in no time at all. One furniture item for two requirements – the ideal solution for creating more room where space is at a premium.

The trick: The desk is turned into a bed without even having to be cleared first. This is made possible by the unique movement of this intelligent hardware system, which operates like a parallelogram. It ensures that the table top is always in a horizontal position. It glides downwards without anything sliding or falling off. When the bed is folded down there is plenty of room between the table top and the bed for the PC, the monitor and some files. Next morning the bed is folded away again and disappears into the rear panel of the furniture. The fully operational desk then reappears, on which everything is arranged as it was the previous evening. Two retaining pins prevent the desk from unintentionally unfolding under load.

Additional storage spaces such as a wall cabinet with lighting and other functions can be integrated, making the furniture ultra-flexible and configurable to your requirements. Predestined usage areas are rooms belonging to children and teenagers, student flats, guest rooms, caravans and boats – anywhere where the rooms are small and there is a lack of space.

The multi-functional fitting from Häfele is available in two versions:  Version one produces a comfortable lying area of 900 x 2000 mm, and version 2 produces an area of 1400 x 2000 mm - ideal for a guest bed in which even two people can sleep.

The multi-functional fitting system is also suitable for industrial furniture construction. The supplied CAD data makes assembly quick, easy and accurate. One set of fittings consists of two gas-filled struts, two supports arms with folding mechanism, two retaining plates for the table top and fixing material. The entire fitting package weighs about 4 kg and is no bigger than an umbrella. The entire structure has been tested for safety by the LGA in accordance with the DIN EN 1129 standard.
